Debate: Is Cable TV a Scam?

5iN: I am discovering how big of a scam cable TV really is.

RJ45: What this about Cable TV being a scam?

5iN: First CableCARD...To elaborate, 90% of the time we get calls on CableCard issues, it's not because of the TV like the CSRs with cable companys are telling people. Most of the time it's miscommunication between their Head End department that programs the cable cards and their billing department.

IE: Their supposed to get Starz, but they get a cable card programed for HBO. They call billing who tells them that everything in their system is correct and then tells them that it's our TV. At that point it gets sent to our CableCard department who ends up finding out it was on the Cable company's end and WE have to work out the communication issue that shouldn't be there in the first place.

Daily Articles

RJ45's Online Boredom Killer #1

WYLFWT.com has shut down its old Pop Culture section! But, never fear, as the best of those archives are making its way to the Daily Articles right here on WYLFWT.com!

Hey, this is sort of a premiere edition of what I like to the "Boredom Killer" newsletter. Similar to what Linda did way back when with all of the interesting links and such. This is for those who are just absolutely bored or like looking at interesting things for the heck of it. The internet is so huge, you might just miss everything, so let RJ be your tour guide for a few hours! It might be weekly. It might be bi-weekly. It might be monthly. I don't know yet.

I would LOVE submissions for this (For example.... I am obviously not a big YouTube guy, but I wanted to keep the section open because I know a few of you are faithful visitors to that community). I would like to keep any links relatively work safe. Next edition will also have "Reader's Websites." So if you got one and would love to plug it, send it my way. Suggestions are also appreciated.

Randomly Random Fun

Daily Articles

How Far Comics Have Come

WYLFWT.com has shut down its old Pop Culture section! But, never fear, as the best of those archives are making its way to the Daily Articles right here on WYLFWT.com!

I was in the book store the other day (I won't say which, but it rhymes with Narnes and Bobles), and was losing myself in the 'Graphic Novel' section (I hate that term, but that's another blog). It dawned on me how far comics have come in the mainstream media since the 80's, when I went from being a child to a teen to an adult.

I loved comics as a kid. My parents always had comics around the house that we got from 7-11. They even use to get the black and white Marvel and horror mags, that I wish we still had today. I learned to read using comics. It was a world I could get into.

Daily Articles

RJ45 Reviews: KoRn Albums

WYLFWT.com has shut down its old Pop Culture section! But, never fear, as the best of those archives are making its way to the Daily Articles right here on WYLFWT.com!

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN: 12/15/2005
As many of you know, I have been a KoRn fan for almost six years. Growing up through the rough years of my life, KoRn's music was always there to help me get through some rough patches in my life. In times of when I was going through suicidal thoughts, their music would help me know that I am not alone in the struggles of life. I have owned and listened all of their albums to date. I love them all in their own way.

Last year, KoRn released their "Greatest Hits" so they could end their contract with Sony. Then, their very influential guitarist, Brian "Head" Welch, left the band as he became a born again Christian. Throughout the last year, he has not really said too much that is positive about KoRn, and has been an overall dickhead about the whole thing. However, KoRn is moving on without Head. They just released their 7th album, "See You On the Other Side."

Comics & Crap #3 - If There is Only ONE Comics & Crap You Read...

Welcome to Comics & Crap #3! I am advertising this edition simply as "If there is only ONE article you read on E/N Elite, make it this one."

First of all, 5iN likes to do funny things with Barn Animals. I will continue to make barnyard animal jokes about 5iN until he says something about whether E/N Elite is the website for the grown up geek or NOT. Avianna proposed the idea and I liked it. Zen, Avianna, and myself have been seeming to follow this trend in our posts...but what has 5iN said? NOTHING. So, 5iN really likes shaving sheep more than he does shaving pussies.

MOVING ON! Today's column covers exactly what this theme we are proposing is all about, the grown-up geek. You see, although we do like things such as comics, video games, web design, programming, whatever it is, we aren't ashamed to admit that we like it. However, we have some perspective and lead ::gasps:: grown up lives. The keywords to this article is "Grown Up."

Daily Articles

A Look at Some of the Women of Comics

WYLFWT.com has shut down its old Pop Culture section! But, never fear, as the best of those archives are making its way to the Daily Articles right here on WYLFWT.com!

This first started off on a website titled "Superheroines of Comics" that I briefly put up and took down. Then, it made its way to the Pop Culture section, and it finally gets promoted to WYLFWT.com Daily Articles!

Its just introduction to some of the heroines and villains found in comics!

Wonder Woman

Debut: Sensation Comics #1 (February 1980)

A Ridiculously Brief History: HA! This is going to be pretty much next to impossible due to over 60 years of history, multiple Earths (including pre and post Crisis on Infinite Earths), TV shows, and multiple Wonder Women. Oh yeah, and I am sure it will get that much worse after Infinite Crisis. Thank you DC Comics!

Why She Rocks

"I Am A Woman, Hear Me Roar" Factor: Wonder Woman is the very definition of "I Am A Woman, Hear Me Roar." She comes from the Amazons, an island in which "the stupid men" are banned from. Depending on which version you are discussing, half-goddess, half-human, Wonder Woman has always had a "take no prisoners" attitude.

"OMG! That Was So Cool!" Factor: Let us start off with those bracelets. Her ability to deflect just about everything with simply bracelets is so awesome. Not only are her abilities with the bracelets totally Matrix-a-riffic, her 100 uses of the golden whip is just as equally "OMG! That Was So Cool!"

"She's Simply Irresistible" Factor: I think that I can honestly say, at any random costume party, Wonder Woman is always a hit. Of course, then there is other, well, domineering-like qualities of Wonder Woman that play to a very select audience, if you catch my drift.

RJ45's Metal #5: Holy Diver by Dio

This week I will be reviewing Holy Diver by Dio

It was the mid-1980s, Ronnie James Dio had left Black Sabbath for "undisclosed reasons." So, Mr. Dio formed his own band. Later on, came Holy Diver, and the title track was the second single released off of that classic album.

While the lyrics are random, this song has remained a classic amongst the metal community. Guitar God Vivian Campbell (now part of Def Leppard) does a great job here. There is a very old school Paranoid-era Black Sabbath feel throughout this song. I really can't say much else because this is Dio's signature song!

Daily Articles

RJ45 Reviews Every Ozzy Osbourne Album

Welcome to a new column that I like to call "RJ45 Reviews Every.Album" Basically, I will provide mini-reviews of an entire artist's discography (excluding most of the compilations for obvious reasons). I would definitely like your feedback on what I hope to be a very popular column at some point. For the first edition, I take on one of rock's biggest legends.
Ozzy Osbourne is an icon. I like to call him "The Johnny Cash of Heavy Metal." Seriously, look at their careers and you will see where I draw some of the parallels. His successful career has now spanned over 30 years, starting off with his famed start in Black Sabbath and then moving onto an equally successful solo career.

In just under a month, Ozzy Osbourne will be releasing Black Rain. This will be his first studio album with original material since his 2001 Down to Earth effort. I will be reviewing his solo discography (ie. No Black Sabbath material). I would like your feedback and your take on Ozzy's solo career!

Daily Articles

Essential Gamecube games for the Wii

Many people are buying the new Wii console from Nintendo, good for them as it is a great, innovative machine with plenty of potential. The system is frequently sold-out here in the UK, with customers still placed on a huge pre-order list. For those of us lucky enough to nab a Wii we get to enjoy such delights as Zelda: Twilight Princess and Wario Ware.
This is where the bad point come in. There aren’t that many games around at the moment *sadness*

So here be a list for all those Wii owners who missed out on a whole bunch of AMAZING games for Nintendo’s previous console, the Gamecube. I haven't included Mario games to give the thing a bit more variety rather than just typing out the however-many Mario games there are.

With the backwards compatibility of the Wii and a lot of shops selling old, cheap Gamecube games there is no reason why you can’t enjoy some of these classic gaming delights.

Grab a Cube controller pad and get gaming!

Daily Articles

VerizonMath - Ah, geez...

Today, I am reviewing the blog, "VerizonMath."

Website/Blog: http://verizonmath.blogspot.com/

This was recommended to me by a co-worker, and I just couldn't believe my ears.

Now, my real job is working as a Technical Support Representative at a call center for a Cable ISP. So, I do call center work for a living. The guy that runs this blog and have the problem has stated for the record that he also has done call center work.

The basis of this blog is that he was quoted a rate of 0.002 of 1 cent for his rate repeatedly by representatives. Instead, he was charged 0.002 of a dollar. Now, one might say "Hey, the first idiot just quoted him the wrong rate!"

Daily Articles

RJ45's Metal #4: "The Serpentine Offering" by Dimmu Borgir

This week I will be reviewing

I believe that the track "The Serpentine Offering" is a perfect example of what the Black Metal scene has to offer. There is simply too much Black Metal that comes off more as noise rather than trying to achieve something musically.

Comics & Crap #2 - Favorite Writers

Welcome back again to the website for the grown-up geek (maybe...hey 5iN...SAY SOMETHING!!! AHGHGHGHG!), I am here with the second edition of this column in hopes to maybe get other people to write geeky stuff too.

I recently just got into comic books. I think the one thing that has captivated me is that I am able to read fiction again. See, I am dyslexic, and never once really got the chance to enjoy fiction. As silly as it sounds, the comics are giving something I was never able to enjoy...even if it is just pictures. (Damn good pictures too).

So, I look for a good story. Granted, I love good art too. However, its the story that is most important to me since this is my opportunity to finally read again. I have come to enjoy some great writers too of our age. This is where I discuss some of them.

Daily Articles

RJ45's Metal #3: The Rising by Trivium

This week I will be reviewing The Rising by Trivium

First of all, these jerks claim that they are the next Metallica?

Let's make one thing clear, you don't become the next Metallica by claiming you are the next Metallica, including ripping riffs directly out of their songs. You don't get that right to make that claim, the listeners do. As far as I am concerned, you aren't good enough to wipe Kirk Hammett's ass, let alone stand next to them. I did get to see them live at Family Values and I will say they are pretty impressive live, and I will give them that.

As for this song, it is okay. Nothing spectacular. The guitar solo was good, for as long as it lasted. Matt Heafy either needs to start screaming again or Trivium needs to get someone to take over on vocals, but it just isn't working.

Daily Articles

Guitar Playing: Getting Started - An FAQ

This is sort of a Q&A I had on the website, TheDigitalSanctuary.com, and I felt it came across very informative when it comes to beginning the guitar. If you have any more questions, please

This will be done in question & answer form.

Q: Do you have any advice or tips for someone who knows absolutley nothing at all when starting playing the guitar?

A: Definitely go for it. I've been playing for just over 12 years, and it's brought a lot of happiness to my life.

For starters, I'd say go to a music shop and pick up a simple chord chart. You don't need one of those thousand-chord books they sell (although they are a handy creative tool), just a simple Major/Minor/7th chord chart will get you started right. Also, beginner song books break down complicated songs into playable open chords that are pretty easy to pick up. Those are handy because you get a good return for the time invested. It doesn't take long to learn how to play a recognizable facsimilie of a song.

Daily Articles

The Pampering Myth...

Response to a Times article: The Pampering Myth: Of Massages, Cuddle Parties and Julie Burchill

Whilst hanging around the Times Online’s ‘Women’ section I happened to come across an article with the engaging title: "Forget the back-rub, it’s a good seeing-to I want". Intrigued, I clicked and found an intemperate rant by Julie Burchill on the topic of ‘pampering’. (Burchill, I suspect, has only two settings; ‘intemperate’ and ‘incandescent’). To give a flavour of it, here’s a choice little quote: "You hear all this stuff about modern women going off sex — the Desire Deficit — and is it any wonder, when they’re getting groped left, right and centre by money-hungry stroke-merchants?"

Daily Articles

RJ45's Metal #2: Classic Sabbath's "Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath"

I decided for this week's "RJ45's Metal" to go with some classic old school Black Sabbath!

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath from the album of the same name, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath,

For a music video produced in the 1970s, it isn't bad. I think I would have cut out the bane of Ozzy's existence, aka dogs. Other than that, I really dug the random trippy effects with each of the band members. Them getting shot with arrows is random and doesn't really have anything to do with anything. Gotta love old music videos sometimes.

Of course, this is a powerful song with powerful lyrics, one of their greats. At the time, Black Sabbath was coming down with a bad case of writer's block. However, Mr. Iommi came up with the riff for this particular track, and refers it to as "The riff that saved Black Sabbath."

It was apart of a time when Sabbath was expanding their sound to including synths and an overall more progressive sound. Totally under appreciated by the masses, but Sabbath fans know differently.

RJ45 Reviews: Journey Albums

In 1980, Journey did it again! They released their third album since Steve Perry had joined the band, Departure. Although the name was pretty much unintentional, one can read into the name of that album. This would mark the last studio album with highly influential keyboardist, Gregg Rolie, as one of the members, taking the Progressive-ish sound with him.

The band consists of Steve Perry (lead vocals), Neal Schon (guitar), Gregg Rolie (keyboard, vocals), Ross Vallory (bass), and Steve Smith (drums).

One can also note the other significant change is that is the album that propelled Journey to the Top of the Charts. The highest this album reached was number #8. That with the concert favorite, "Any Way You Want It." Of the three albums with both Steve Perry & Gregg Rolie, I would have to say that this has probably is the best. For a band that many critics dismiss as "Wuss Rock," they should give this album a shot. If you like old school progressive rock, this one is worth a shot.

Daily Articles

Okay, sooooo, I play WoW. One might think I am one of those computer gamers if I am addicted to an MMO, right?

No so. Most here know my roots and heart still lie with the trusty, and strictly made for video games, console games. Mostly Playstation seeing as it brought me much more RPGs, which is my thing.

But what ever happened to me playing Playstation for hours? (Pictures inside!)

I used to stay up till 5 am trying to defeat Ultimate Weapon... and then, one day, I find myself without a Playstation plugged into my TV.

I think I can honestly clock a year since I actually played a Playstation game. What was it? Shadow of Destiny!? WTF?

Maybe I'm getting old, or maybe there just isn't as many quality RPGs or video games. Hell the last game I remember obsessing over was Gran Theft Auto 3. I played the others, but it was like the same car, with new leather seats... then the same car with not only new leather seats but fuzzy dice. They were fun, but not mind grabbing.... I don't know.

Daily Articles

A Look Back at Pokemon

The year was 1998. I was twelve years old, in middle school, and the Pokemon games debuted in the United States for the very first time. A game so simple and yet at the very same time: So complex. Nothing was more addictive, nothing was more fun than playing Pokemon.

If you remember the craze (the REAL craze, presently it isn't nearly as strong as it was back then), then you remember what it was like to go to school back in those days. Suddenly EVERYONE had a Gameboy. Suddenly even those who didn't normally play games or even know what the hell a Gameboy was, had it. And you'd go up to your friends and you'd trade Pokemon, you'd taunt each other about who was the better champion when you battled. You got in arguments over who the best starter was. Then you learned of those glitches to get all your Pokemon to level 100 by duplicating the Rare Candies. You caught Missingno and M-Block and caught Safari Zone Pokemon by exploiting what may very well be one of the most widely known glitches in video game history.

Daily Articles

Comics & Crap #1 - Introduction

I have been trying to think of what would be cool for E/N Elite. Since I've became a born again comic book fan, I've been wanting to do a comic book column. WYLFWT.com is not really a good home as it doesn't have much universal appeal. So then it hit me, why not E/N Elite?

I got back into comic books about over a year ago. There are some elitist nerds out there that read nothing but Indie titles and Japanese Manga. Not me,

I'm all about the classic Marvel & DC. I delve into some Image & Vertigo every now and then. Sometimes and Indie title catches my eye, but the majority just don't cut it for me.

There are some comic book fans that only time they ever leave the house is to hit their local mom and pop comic shop. I hit there once in awhile, and "oh my fucking god, get me out of here" is the only thing that comes to mind. I usually do my best to avoid these types, but, once in awhile, I lose. Here is some guy who hasn't bathed in a week talking to me about continuity errors in the latest Green Arrow.

During these conversations as I just nod and smile, I really want to scream, "I don't give a shit. Go take a bath!"

RJ45's Metal #1: Nightwish - Amaranth

This is going to be a series of blogs by yours truly, a "Metal Video Blog," where I will be talking about music videos by metal artists, reviewing them and what not. So, let us get started with our first one, "Amaranth" by Nightwish.

Original YouTube Video Description: "The first official video clip of the upcoming album "Dark Passion Play" of Nightwish. Featuring new vocalist Anette Olzen"

I've become a Nightwish listener as of late. I was worried about the new lead singer totally wrecking Nightwish. Well, while she is not as good as Tarja, she is still fantastic.

Very catchy rhythm and good video overall. Anette has a very cute smile and shows that off in the video. The rest of the band rocking out really puts everything over the top.

Nightwish had some rough years as of late. It seemed like everyone was at fault, and if moving on with a new lead singer is what it means to keep the band going, then so be it. I really hope they tour and make great music for years to come!

I also hope Tarja moves on to her own career and makes great music for everyone to listen to.

Rating (Of 5 Stars): ***1/2

Is Fluoride Toxic?

WYLFWT.com is shutting down its old Pop Culture section! But, never fear, as the best of those archives are making its way to the Daily Articles right here on WYLFWT.com! Today, we are posting a classic review of a Wii SD 1 GB Memory Card that pissed some people off on the first go around!

I am Evil Homer, YEAH! I am Evil Homer! Hi, this is Evil Homer making my big debut on WYLFWT.com here in "The 411" section.

One of my co-workers brought this chain mail to my attention

Daily Articles

Five of Neil Gaiman's Best

Since I've been talking about Neil Gaiman recently I thought I would write about some of his best stuff that many people might not be aware of: First, there is a radio play adaption of "Snow, Glass, Apples" with a performance by Bebe Neuwirth that is absolutely incredible. I had read the short story, and didn't really remember it. But the performance by Bebe Neuwirth really burned it into my mind. I listened to it once and still two years later think about it. It's a really twisted retelling of Snow White. Seek it out. It's available as Two Plays For Voices.

Second, if you aren't aware of his Sandman books. I would start you off on The Sandman: Endless Nights. It is a collection of stories that will introduce you to various members of the Endless family: Death, Dream, Desire, Delight (or Delirium,) Destruction, Destiny and Despair. Old collaborators Dave McKean (cover and design only) and P. Craig Russell are here as well as some artists that haven't worked with Neil before. My favorite being, "What I've Tasted of Desire" with art by the fantastic Milo Manara. Also, "The Heart of a Star" with art by Miguelanxo Prado. This story is cool, to me, because it ties in with DC Comics continuity, but it's so inside only Green Lantern readers would get it.

Daily Articles

Super Mario Galaxy: Out of This World

Mario is a huge staple in gaming. When a Mario game comes out it can't just be "good" it has to be "great." In the past, Mario games have defined the platformers of their generation. From Super Mario Bros. over 20 years ago, to Super Mario 64 bringing platforming into 3D in a whole new light. Super Mario Sunshine, however, did not turn nearly as many heads as Super Mario 64. Understandable, seeing as how Super Mario 64 is a tough game to compare to. Super Mario Galaxy does compare, though. While it doesn't reinvent the wheel, it serves as an example of why Mario continues to rule the platforming genre.

Mario has never been a game to pick up for its storyline. As usual, things are peaceful in the Mushroom Kingdom. In this case, they're enjoying the star festival. As usual, Bowser comes in and decides to stir up trouble. He ends up kidnapping Princess Peach and once again its up to Mario to go rescue her. In order to reach Bowser's hideout, though, he'll have to collect power stars to do so. It borrows a lot from Super Mario 64 in the plot development, but this is hardly the same game. Like all Mario games, the story is simplistic. We've been saving Peach for over 20 years and it won't be stopping soon. You do not pick up Super Mario Galaxy for its storyline. It's all about the gameplay.

Halo 3: The Fight is Done

The Fight is Done

Love it or hate it, Halo 3 is a huge gaming event. The series has had huge commercial success. To the point where it had bred fanboys and haters alike. It's almost to the point where you can't just say the game is good. You either love it or hate it. I don't love Halo, but I don't hate it either. For what it's worth it's a pretty good game. Obviously if you didn't think much of the first two games, however, it's unrealistic to expect you'll think highly of the third one. Simply put, if you don't like Halo, don't expect the third game in the series to turn you into a fan.

The story is told through cutscenes that are well acted with their voice talents. If you've been interested in the story since the beginning, chances are you'll like it and be satisfied. The game doesn't drown you out in story sequences either. For those who just want to get to the gameplay, you've got it. But there is a fair amount of story here as well.

Nintendo Wii SD 1 GB Memory... Almost Useless

Almost Useless

The Wii comes built in with 512 MB of Flash Memory. For the casual gamer, this may be enough to satisfy your needs. For the hardcore gamer, and one who plans on going through with a lot of the Wii's downloads, this SD Card is almost useless. For more reasons than one.

For starters, the only thing this card can be used for is backup. Nothing more. Nothing less. I purchased an SD memory card so that I wouldn't have to lug my entire system off to a friends house in order to play games. It was effective, but not entirely in the way I expected. You can't load directly from the card itself, which almost defeats the purpose of why I invested in it in the first place.

First, you must copy your file to the SD card. Then, when you stick it in a different Wii Console, you must copy that same file to that console. This is very hectic when you and your friend own the same game. You're only allowed to have one system file per game. So if you plan on showing your friend all the cool stuff you've got on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and he also owns the game, you can't just stick in your SD card and load your game.

Daily Articles

WYLFWT.com is shutting down its old Pop Culture section! But, never fear, as the best of those archives are making its way to the Daily Articles right here on WYLFWT.com!

Today, we are posting a nice post on record companies...

Read on, and you shall see why. The points I make in this list are in no particular order.

Daily Articles
