Crispy Chip

CrispyChip v 1.0 by FlareHolyMeteo

This is an emulator of the CHIP8 interpreter that was on certain computers in the 60s and 70s and on the HP48 calculator in the 90s. The system was 8-bit, had 4k of RAM, and had a hex keyboard that looked like this from a top-down view:
1 2 3 C
4 5 6 D
7 8 9 E
A 0 B F

In CrispyChip the following keys on the keyboard correspond to the hex keyboard above:

1 2 3 4
Q W E R
A S D F
Z X C V

Hence, if you want to press the "1" key on the emulated keyboard, you would press 1, if you wanted to press "4". you press Q and so on.

Other Controls:
The emulator opens with a GUI in which you can open a ROM, in which 43 public domain roms have been provided for you in the ROMs directory. While playing a game, one can hit F2 to open another ROM.

You can also adjust the speed of the emulator. F3 increases the speed and F4 decreases the speed or you can click +/- Speed in the Options Menu for the same effect. The sound dialog adjusts the sound options, which is accessible by F5 or through the Options Menu. One can adjust the color of the background and foreground using the Color dialog, where the tops of the gauges represent the maximum value of the color and the bottoms represent none of that color at all. This dialog can be accessed through the Options Menu or F6. One can change the screen size through the Graphics Mode dialog in the Options Menu or by pressing F7. To reset the emulation, select Reset in the File Menu or hit F8. Once in game mode, hit ESC or left-click to go back to the menu. You can exit the menu by left clicking outside of the menu.

If you are playing Spacefight 2091 (SPACEFIG), then you need to enable the Toggle Spacefight 2091 Hack option in the Options Menu. However, be careful to not run Tetris with this hack enabled as it breaks Tetris.

Game Controls:

Since CHIP8 programs have sucky controls that one could not hope to figure out on their own, here they are:

15PUZZLE Controls:

Look at the PC adaptation of the hex keyboard above. To move the letter in the position corresponding to the button on the keyboard into the blank space, simply press that button. I.e. if we have:

1 2 3 4
5 6 7 8
9 A B C
D E F

To move "F" into the blank spot one would press C, to move C, one would press F.

ALIEN Controls:
Hit Z to get past the title screen. 3 moves left, 4 moves right, Z fires. You'll probably want to increase the
speed for this game.
