Anybody else finding it
Anybody else finding it strange that Science-Fiction is coming in dead last? But then again, I think those votes are going to Dungeons n Dragons, and would have gone to Sci-Fi had DnD not made the poll. What does anyone else think?
I think DnD is the geekiest because the people playing it sometimes have issues separating themselves from their characters, and it can get kind of creepy to everyone else.
Sci-Fi comes in 2nd because its another separating themselves from the story. Conventions and Star Wars fanatics alone should tell you something.
Next up in 3rd, IMO, is Comic Books. You would be surprised as to who reads comic books, and with comic book movies being as popular as they are, its a little less uncool than it used to be. Even grown up geeks like Kevin Smith make it easier for people to read comic books. Problem is, you get idiots who complain about every character change and reference every issue of a comic. It makes other comic book geeks in general look bad.
4th is Computer Hacking. Lets face it, people get fascinated by the concept. They may not care to learn it, but seeing someone hack into systems is pretty damn exciting to the common person. However, see the movie Live Free or Die Hard with Kevin Smith's "Command Center" for why many times it becomes uncool.
5th is Science & Math... mostly because these people go on to be really successful and the few batch of geeks who do NOT still live in their mother's basement. But, get in a conversation with them about dinosaur fossils and you're like "What the fuck?!"
