This Burning Earth

This Burning Earth is a heavy metal quartet from the small town of Chillicothe, Illinois. The band itself was spawned when Justin Graze (vocalist), who had known the guitarist, Jeff Anthony for roughly 5 years, came up with the idea to practice covering their favorite music. The two started covering Pantera, Cannibal Corpse, Coal Chamber, and many other heavy metal bands, track after track, often times playing entire albums without a break. The two started writing songs on their own shortly after that. After the first few tracks, the name "Devouring Feces" continued to grow on the two and for a brief period, that was what they called themselves.

Shortly after writing their first 7 tracks, the group then known as "Devouring Feces" decided that this was going to be more than a project. They swiftly recruited Dick Justice and Austin to support them on the rhythm section. Dick and Austin play bass and drums, respectively. Once the four got together, it was "Finally Dying" that they had decided for the band name. It was to be shortly lived. The four, after finding out what the 'message' was going to be, decided that This Burning Earth would be the "official name" of this group.

I try to make a unique, eclectic sound that represents the fusion of folk rock and the psychedelic sounds of yesteryear. I originally went by The Juno Sound (after a sweet analog synth from 1982), but a profound religious experience prompted the recent name change to better reflect the truth of reality as well as a great deal of musical influence. Often mellow and moody, lyrically intellectual and mild, my songs push for the cessation of suffering through music.

What do you get?

This Burning Earth Promotion Campaign

Well, with the guys finishing up the album, and sure to begin a few concerts here and there, we gotta think of some ways to help get This Burning Earth\'s name out there some more. You see, even though The Pick wanted to keep his release low key.

However, I know that this release could potentially mean big things for both This Burning Earth AND WYLFWT? I am sure its no big secret I want to eventually turn WYLFWT into a business. I am not sure what I want to sell, but perhaps representation and/or promotion is a start.

Its also no big secret that This Burning Earth have a great sound and can go very far. They have been busting their ass for the past year working and practicing. They didn't just jump into this head first. They took their time to get a nice well-rounded sound. I heard a lot of potential in their early stuff (the first RBE demo). I took into consideration all of the technology issues they were having and knew that, if given the right stuff, they could kick ass. I think anyone listening to Malice or Abducted can agree with me on that.

The Second Coming of Astro Man!

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their support making Tree a dream come true. After over a years worth of writing, recording, re-recording, burning off the chaff, and mastering, Tree was no longer a dream, but a reality. There are still plenty of copies left if you are interested in getting one.

Well, I have an announcement to make on the followup album to Tree. It is called...Astro Man!

Astro Man is The Juno Sound's next great project. Like Tree, it is a concept album whose individual songs contribute to the overall story of the album. Astro Man is the tale of a man attempting to amble his way through the mire of religion and church. Astro Man, unlike Tree, is going to feature several memorable characters, from the false profit Dr. Phineas Marvel to the messianic figure Astro Man.

Recording for Astro Man began in late July. No release date has been set, but fans can expect more 3D art, more psychedelic sounds, and more interesting content.

Yes, your eyes do not deceive you. The Pick is here! First of all, I would like to thank every one of you for your support and wonderful words while I was recovering. I am thankful that I am in such wonderful company here.

Some of you know already that Tree was delayed due to my surgery, but it is now back on track. Rich was kind of enough to go ahead and select a new internet single, "I Can Fly."

This is one of my favorite songs on the album, and I felt that is neccessary to share with you a bit of insight into the meaning of this song.

Major news in from Finally Dying headquarters.

We sat down last night and decided that a name change is in order. It was kinda-sorta brought on by everyone. We all love the name Finally Dying, but the fact is that there's a buncha bands that include the word Dying in their name that we felt that it wasn't as original as it possibly could be. We've been scratching our heads for a little bit now and decided to go with the name I came up with sometime last week that we've all fell in love with....Is everyone ready???.......

THIS BURNING EARTH

The band previously known as Finally Dying will now be known as "This Burning Earth". We're not going to get all environmental or any shit like that. We just feel that this name best expresses our anger and hatred that we all feel about the way things are going for all in general.

Hello all Benton here with the latest of what Finally Dying is up to.

Jeff and myself finished recording two new tracks, "Malice" and "Martyr (A Worthless Prophecy)." Both of these tracks are far more advanced, yet more simplistic, than our previous two releases.

As far as "Malice" goes, we were thinking about leaving it instrumental for quite a while. There''s just something about the way the guitar goes together, riff to riff, perfectly that I personally didn''t want to fuck with too much. However, we then decided that a few, small (but very effective) screams at certain parts would kick major ass. Turns out we were both right on the money. We love this song.

Hello all, Benton here with the latest info on what Finally Dying is up to...

Well, quite a bit of good news has come in lately! Im going to be starting a new job on monday that is much more flexible (having weekends and holidays off) and pays nearly twice what I was making before. It is absolutely fabulous news, but in a way it kinda sucks. I'm leaving a job where nearly everyone there was very cool. I met a few people there, including a few that are staff members for this site, that were entirely too cool for their own good. Those select 5 or so individuals I will definately be in constant contact with and am going to follow up on all their individual projects,and/or"goings on". True, it's kinda sad, but I'm absolutely doing backflips over the job I'm getting into, its in the "I.T." field, which is exactly what I want to do most. New tunes 2/24

Hello all,

Just keeping everyone posted on all the Finally Dying has going on right now. I completely finished my work on "Nothing", our 2nd song. I must say this song is quite impressive. This marks the first time I've had a song, chorus and all, in my head before any of the vocals were recorded. It's a lot more "catchy" and includes a shredding-ass solo. This is more of a "normal" song as far as structure is concerned. The 3rd track, "Martyr 2006" is even better (so far, it's about 65% done on my part, Jeff is always ahead of me) with very diverse lyrical rythms, and an actual concept (as opposed to gore, gore, I'm going to kill and that will most likely result in, gore). I'm very impressed with our process, it seems that we're developing an excellent writing schedule where we only actually both have to be present once per week, and the rest is done via electronic mail (to quote the Pick). It's getting better around here, folks!...And much more prolific.

Q: Do you have any advice or tips for someone who knows absolutley nothing at all when starting playing the guitar?

A: Definitely go for it. I've been playing for just over 12 years, and it's brought a lot of happiness to my life.

For starters, I'd say go to a music shop and pick up a simple chord chart. You don't need one of those thousand-chord books they sell (although they are a handy creative tool), just a simple Major/Minor/7th chord chart will get you started right. Also, beginner song books break down complicated songs into playable open chords that are pretty easy to pick up. Those are handy because you get a good return for the time invested. It doesn't take long to learn how to play a recognizable facsimilie of a song.
