Wrestlemania 25 Predicted Line-Up

Wrestlemania 25

Wrestlemania 25 is just around the corner. This is like the holidays for wrestling fans. The playoff season. The season finale. Whatever you call it... it is fun times for fans of wrestling.

The last couple of years, its been more about the spectacle and showcase of the event rather than the card itself. However, I think that this might be the first year where it can be about both!

I've been a wrestling fan since 1992, I was around 7 years old and in the 2nd grade at the time. I have seen what direction WWE likes to take their storylines and matches in for years (aka. What Vince likes to do). It gets to the point where I sometimes call the finish of the match right down to what moves are used a few seconds before it actually occurs. Not that is really anything to brag about (it is more pathetic than anything).

So, last month, I posted what *I* would have booked for Wrestlemania (given the storyline circumstances at the time), now I am posting what I predict will be the whole f'n show. I am very interested in your feedback.

HBK / Undertaker
THE MAIN EVENT
Mr. Wrestlemania vs. The Streak
Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker

Why? Well, every year, its always a matter of who will be facing Shawn Michaels, and who will be facing The Undertaker? This year, why don't they just face each other in what is definitely going to be a Match of the Year Contender. Last year, both The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels had perhaps one of their best years in wrestling. Undertaker had a great series of matches with Edge and even got a few decent ones out of Big Show. HBK had the Match of the Year with Ric Flair, and a series of classics with Chris Jericho.

HBK and Undertaker did have a brief series of matches in 1997. The big one being the first ever Hell in a Cell at Badd Blood. They were great matches. Years later now that HBK isn't hurting and The Undertaker has really evolved into a decent wrestler, they could really tear the house down.

There have been years where the wrong match has went on last for the sake of having a Heavyweight championship match last. Last year, it should of have been HBK/Flair. At Wrestlemania 18, it should of been Hogan/Rock. This year, it can only be HBK/Undertaker.

Triple H / Orton
WWE Title
Triple H vs. Randy Orton

Why? This one is a no-brainer. Randy Orton won the Royal Rumble and is a heel. Triple H just won the WWE Title and is the only face champion. These two have had a huge history starting with some double crossing in Evolution. Last year's Wrestlemania, they collided in a Triple Threat match where Randy Orton basically stole the victory from Triple H. A year later, it has escalated to becoming and even more personal as Randy Orton has attacked both Triple H's family and his wife. This match would be one of those "its more than just the title" matches. Orton has really evolved in the last year and I think that these two have the potential on putting on a classic match given the right circumstances.

Cena / Edge
World Title
John Cena vs. Edge

Why? Well, we all knew John Cena was going to be involved in a main event compacity somehow. However, now Edge has been "The Ultimate Opportunist" and stole the Heavyweight Championship from John Cena not once, but TWICE now.

They had a really good feud a couple of years ago where Edge visited Cena's home and beat up his father. All of it climaxed in a really good TLC match. So, John Cena has the imaginary rematch clause that WWE introduced randomly a couple of years ago... and what better place to cash it in than Wrestlemania 25?

Jericho /Stone Cold
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Chris Jericho

WHY? Stone Cold's last match was a loss against The Rock. That was 6 years ago at Wrestlemania XIX. Since then, he's been a GM, a sheriff, and a referee about a dozen times.

Chris Jericho has been targetting Hall of Famers lately. His victims thus far include Ric Flair and Rowdy Roddy Piper thanks to the popularity of the movie The Wrestler starring Mickey Rourke, a movie where a legend in wrestling just wants one last shot in the spotlight. Stone Cold Steve Austin is the main guy going into the Hall of Fame this year. He has not had his one last chance in the spotlight. Jericho would be the right guy for him to stomp a mudhole in and walk it dry. ;-)

Matt / Jeff
Brother vs. Brother
Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy

Why? Jeff Hardy was on top of the world as he won his first WWE Heavyweight Championship. That was until Matt Hardy's jealousy took over and cost Jeff the championship.

This is the biggest no brainer out of everything. While the one match they had several years ago was not all that great.... Matt and Jeff have evolved as singles wrestlers a lot since then. They could put on the match of a lifetime, especially if they make it No Holds Barred.

Christian / Jack Swagger
ECW Championship
Christian vs. Jack Swagger

Captain Charisma made his return to WWE on the ECW brand and issued a challenge to Jack Swagger. I believe that the best stage possible for this match is at Wrestlemania. Honestly, its the only worthy ECW match not involving Dreamer/Miz/Morrison that could make the final cut.

Money in the Bank
Money in the Bank V

Predicted Participants: Kofi Kingston vs. Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk vs. John Morrison vs. Evan Bourne vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. R-Truth

Well, we KNOW that there is going to be a Money in the Bank match. What we don't know is who is going to be in it.

They had 8 participants two years ago and they WERE going to have 8 last year. This year should be good. Shelton Benjamin is Money in the Bank MVP as he is literally Spiderman in these crazy matches. John Morrison was just awesome last year. Mr. Kennedy and CM Punk are both veterans and deserve their spots. Kofi, R-Truth, and Evan Bourne are the new guys that need to be in as they have had a great last year in the WWE. Personally, I am just surprised Rey Mysterio hasn't been in a Money in the Bank match yet.

Maryse / Melina
Divas Champion vs. Woman's Champion Lumberjill Match
Maryse vs. Melina

WHY? We are probably going to have several Raw vs. Smackdown showdowns at this particular Wrestlemania so far, and I believe that WWE just might go that route with their woman's match since there is really no clear Woman's match at this point. The Divas belt is relatively new, too... so in order to make it somewhat legitimate, a Wrestlemania spot is needed in some form. Since WWE seems to have this 1 Woman's match per show rule for some reason, then have the two women collide would be perfect. Have the obligatory Lumberjill match and have an all out brawl after the match ends in shenanigans, and you have your woman's match at Wrestlemania.

25 Man Battle Royal
25 Man Battle Royal

Every year, they have a pre-show Battle Royal. Since its Wrestlemania 25, a 25 man battle royal is appropriate. I'd like to see this ON the show and not this pre-show crap, personally.

Maybe to make it somewhat important, they could the GM reward the winner a Heavyweight championship match for their respective brand at Backlash or something? Maybe even a spot in the Money in the Bank match.

I just picked 25 guys that sounded like they belonged in there. About the only ommission I accidentally made was Rhodes & Dibiase. But they are involved in the whole Triple H/Orton deal.

Other things to look out for:

- Apparently Hulk Hogan has signed on to contribute in some fashion at Wrestlemania. We might see Jericho vs. Hogan, John Cena vs. Hulk Hogan, or the much dreamed Steve Austin vs. Hulk Hogan. Too early to call. Mickey Rourke still might even get involved against Jericho.
- I look for Rhodes & Dibiase to have a match.
- There is talks of having Trish Stratus making an appearance in the woman's match. That has not been confirmed so I am not incorporating that in my predictions.

So those are my reasonable predictions. We will check back after the Smackdown before Wrestlemania and see how many I got correct... and get my predictions on the results!
