RJ45's Metal #4: "The Serpentine Offering" by Dimmu Borgir

This week I will be reviewing The Serpentine Offering by Dimmu Borgir
I believe that the track "The Serpentine Offering" is a perfect example of what the Black Metal scene has to offer. There is simply too much Black Metal that comes off more as noise rather than trying to achieve something musically.
I have heard people state that Dimmu Borgir actually sold out. That is a ridiculous statement because I can guarantee you that NOBODY outside of the extreme metal community has heard of these guys. Until you see a 13 year old coming out of Hot Topic wearing a Dimmu Borgir shirt and a 50 Cent hat, then you will know they sold out.
Overall, I guess what I love about this track is its epic feel. Starting off with that symphony sound and then smoothly transition into that hard metal sound totally works. Also, the clean vocals really add to that epic feel I was talking about.
The video itself starts off really good. Reminded me of the movies Excalibur and Braveheart. Then, Dimmu Borgir comes in. While I love these guys, the corpse paint and overacting really took away from the story they were trying to tell in the video. Definitely some LOLMetal moments there. Including this one...

In conclusion, we have an almost perfect video with a perfect song. I think everyone can be pleased with the results here.

More melodic black metal
Dimmu Borgir's pretty good, but if you want some GREAT melodic black metal, check our Windir or Nocte Obducta. I hate black metal for the most part, but I can say that 1184 by Windir and the Nektar albums by Nocte Obducta are some of the best albums I've ever heard.
As you have played that
As you have played that music for me and yes, I can confirm that they are all very good. :-)
I just like Dimmu Borgir because it reminds me of those days when we went down to Forest City to watch wrestling!
