Comics & Crap #1 - Introduction

Pop Culture Archives

I have been trying to think of what would be cool for E/N Elite. Since I've became a born again comic book fan, I've been wanting to do a comic book column. WYLFWT.com is not really a good home as it doesn't have much universal appeal. So then it hit me, why not E/N Elite?

I got back into comic books about over a year ago. There are some elitist nerds out there that read nothing but Indie titles and Japanese Manga. Not me,

I'm all about the classic Marvel & DC. I delve into some Image & Vertigo every now and then. Sometimes and Indie title catches my eye, but the majority just don't cut it for me.

There are some comic book fans that only time they ever leave the house is to hit their local mom and pop comic shop. I hit there once in awhile, and "oh my fucking god, get me out of here" is the only thing that comes to mind. I usually do my best to avoid these types, but, once in awhile, I lose. Here is some guy who hasn't bathed in a week talking to me about continuity errors in the latest Green Arrow.

During these conversations as I just nod and smile, I really want to scream, "I don't give a shit. Go take a bath!"

As far continuity goes, I am probably more forgiving than the hardcore geeks. Unless it is blatantly obvious (IE. Batman gets weakened by the mere prescence of Kryptonite), I really don't care. I hear some of the lamest ones ometimes. I will give you a hypothetical example. Let us just say in issue Web of Spiderman #4436, Spiderman stated that he hated Hot Dogs. However, in the last issue of Avengers, he exclaimed his lust for Hot Dogs. My opinion is, if you pay attention to Spiderman's favorite foods, maybe continuity errors in comic books isn't your biggest problem.

Enough for me talking about that, how about some mini-reviews!

New Excalibur 01 to 03 - This is definitely the best thing to come out of Chris Claremont in a really really really really really long time. After wanting to put a gun to my brain reading his last run on Excalibur and some of the lacklustre Uncanny X-Men stories, this is a very refreshing read. I especially like how the new team is shaping up, and the fight scene in issue #3 was awesome. The story starts out in the wake of The House of M with almost all of the mutant population obliterated by the Scarlet Witch. Now a new threat hits Britain! What will ever happen?

GRADE:
A+ for New Exaclibur 01
A- for New Excalibur 02
A+ for New Excalibur 03.

Infinite Crisis 01 - Okay, this is DC Universe's big storyline of the year/decade. It is the sequel to the fantastic Crisis on Infinite Earths from the mid 80s where DC rebooted the entire universe, and a follow-up to the fantastic Identity Crisisstory from 2004. Its so hard to give a spoiler-free review on this bad boy, hence why I provided the wikipedia links for those whom are curious. The book is very much worth all the damn hype from the past year. Let us just say that THIS LOOKS LIKE A JOB FOR SUPERMAN!!!

Grade: A+

Trades I am Currently Reading: Batman: HUSH, X-Treme X-Men: Storm - The Arena

Well, I gots to get to my homework. Maybe next time I will have some more mini-reviews or something else to talk about. Let me know what you think of this.
